Garry Nash, Glass Artist, New Zealand

Biography

Garry Nash was born in Sydney, Australia, then moved to New Zealand in 1973 where he lives with his wife and fellow artist, Anna Palmer and their two children.

Garry began working with glass in 1978. He joined  Sunbeam Glassworks in Auckland in 1981 as a full-time glass artist and acquired ownership of Sunbeam seven years later.

Garry has developed an international reputation through the strength and quality of his work in the Art-Glass medium. In 2001, Garry was made an Officer of The New Zealand Order of merit for services to Glass Art.

Using a combination of 16th century Venician glass technique and blow it into an 18th century English style is one of Garry's greatest joys of being involved in the studio glass movement.

Architectual presence and colour are corner stones of the studio glass movement. Garry combines colour and form in his work to invoke an emotional response.
